We’re seriously excited to introduce the Sonia Rykiel brand to our already growing online store! Sonia Rykiel is a legend in her own right, and we’ve been lucky enough to bring this amazing brand to you!
Sonia’s career started way back in 1962, when she couldn’t find any soft sweaters to wear while she was pregnant. Not giving up, she decided to use one of her husband’s suppliers from Venice to design her own sweaters.
Rykiel didn’t stop there. She then created her first maternity dresses and a tiny sweater, called the Poor Boy Sweater, which she started selling from her husband’s label “Laura”. The Poor Boy Sweater made the cover of ELLE fashion magazine, and brought her fame. In fact she was crowned “Queen of Knits” by the Americans in 1967.
Julie de Libran
In 2014, Julie de Libran became the Artistic Director of the brand. Libran was formerly the studio director of womenswear at Louis Vuitton. She’s also worked with other big names like Versace, Prada and Marc Jacobs to name a few.
Julie de Libran Takes the Reins
Julie de Libran took the reins in 2014 and at the time said that she would be like a child going through her mother’s clothes, as she grew up with the brand and always looked up to Sonia as the ultimate style fashionista.
Rykiel Enfant is born
In 1983, the brand’s children’s wear line Rykiel Enfant came to be under the creative eye of daughter Nathalie Rykiel. Nathalie said about the brand’s launch. “I was pregnant with my eldest daughter and I couldn’t find anything that I liked”. Thus, Rykiel Enfant was born.
Being a French fashion brand, their collection is known for being chic, elaborate in its cuts with cute embellishments without going over-the-top. The garments are extremely creative in all their gorgeous glory. Each and every garment has an elegant sense of luxury.
